Hops Cottage in Shaldon sleeps four adults and a child. It is in the beautiful village of Shaldon in South Devon. Accessible from the M5 in minutes.
For far too long now, we have rented holiday homes in the UK and have been disappointed by the poor condition of them. We spent a week in Cornwall last summer and watched the water trickling down the mouldy bedroom wall every morning. At Christmas we spent a week in a very tired and ill equipped cottage where the landlady charged us an extortionate amount for the electricity that we had to use because the place was so cold and the only heat we could find was from electric heaters.
So we decided to buy our own place and fit it out with all the creature comforts that one would expect whilst taking a pleasant break in Shaldon Devon. Hops Cottage has been decorated to a nice comfortable standard. No expense has been spared on the bathroom and kitchen. The furniture has been carefully chosen over a period of time, with many items purchased from antique shops.
The cottage sleeps: - four adults and one child
Double Bedroom - Double bed 4'6"
Twin Room - Two 2'6" beds
Child's Bedroom - One Child's cabin bed (max 5'2 height)
There is a newly fitted kitchen dining room with micowave, washing machine, gas hob + electric oven, CD radio cassette. All cutlery, pans and plates, cups etc are provided.
The living room has two twin seater sofas and a very comfortable armchair. We have put in a colour televison along with a video recorder. There are also a few children's toys to keep little ones entertained.
The hot water and central heating is supplied via a combination boiler fitted discreetly in the kitchen. There are radiators in every room.
THE COTTAGE IS A NON-SMOKING HOME AND AS SUCH WE WOULD BE GRATEFUL IF YOU DO SMOKE, PLEASE SMOKE OUTSIDE.
Shaldon - A beautiful little village unspoilt by commercialism
Shaldon at the mouth of the River Teign estuary, Shaldon is one of South Devon's smaller jewels. It is an unspoilt and very charming village, with much to interest the visitor.
It has a wealth of Georgian and older architecture and the atmosphere is perfect for a leisurely wander.
There is the sandy river beach and the Smugglers Tunnel to the equally sandy Ness beach beyond the Ness Rock. A short climb to the summit of Ness Rock will reward you with stunning views. Shaldon is famous for its salmon, cockles and mussels.
Visit Shaldon Wildlife Trust, a small child-friendly zoo. Stroll through the Botanical Gardens.
The village green is a Bowling Green and you can watch matches taking place there on warm summer evenings.
The passenger ferry to Teignmouth runs frequently during the season and is very reasonably priced. There is a well-signed large public car park at the Ness Rock end of the village.
Hops Cottage has passed the Tourist Board Inspection carried out by the South Devon Tourist Association Inspectors.
